Yeah, so my Mom got into an accident earlier this month. Amazingly she walked away without a single scratch, although, due to physics, she got whipped around a bit during the impact and complained of a sore neck. But everything is A-O-K now. But I wanted to share photos of the wreckage.
She was driving on the highway, coming home, at around 5:30pm. Earlier that day it snowed and some ice formed on the roads but that melted all away before evening; so the roads ’seemed’ safer to drive on. After we got the call from Mom, my Dad and I went to go to the accident to deal with the Tow-er and Police. At this point, my Mom was already taken to a nearby hospital but we still had no idea of the specifics of how the accident was caused or if anyone else was involved. Once we got there, the car had already been towed out from the ditch and was sitting on the bed of the tow truck. And no other car was involved in the accident.
The car had three major collision points: driver side, front, and rear. I was looking around and the first thing I noticed was how the railings where bent all the way in, away from the highway. I should note that the collision occured adjacent to an exit ramp, so luckily, no honey mooning with the concrete barriers. But judging by these evidence and where the most damaged was done on the car, my Mom’s car had to be sliding driver’s side first towards the head of the railing. And the way the rail was bent—roughly made a 95 degree angle and wasn’t crumpled cuz that would’ve suggested a head-on collision—the car had to be facing the opposite direction to traffic so that she would be seeing oncoming cars and their headlights beaming right into her eyes. From there, the car broadsides the rail but continues to rotate, taking out the rear bumper. But there was also front damage of the car, so I could only imagine that the car had to keep on rotating to take out the front bumper. I didn’t have the opportunity to see the car before it was towed out of the ditch, so my idea of the collision is totally imaginative. But I’m extremely happy and thankful that my Mom walked away with her life.
However, she was pissed because the Police charged her for reckless driving. Even though she was going the same speed as everyone and driving cautiously, mind you she has never ever been in an accident, the Police, by default, if no one else was involved with the incident, would write it off as reckless driving because of going faster than what the conditions allowed for. My mom thought it was bullsh*t and refused to sign and is expected to plead it in court this coming month.
